Tributes Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt ready to express about his personal sorrow.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can now put my grief into words," shared Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began spending more time together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the movie, adding that he cannot recall "one day without laughter".
"The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a different tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
Recently, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to block the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order placed a security hold on the investigation to limit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" connected to the active case.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a record citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the tragedy, public figures offered varying comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, offering divisive remarks that were widely condemned by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the detractors last week. Speaking on his show, Rogan described the comments as "disturbing" and implied they showed a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by suggesting that an aide ought to have intervened when the impulse to speak on the tragedy was made.
