Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.
And both candidates - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the club ownership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they start the search of appointing a fresh head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
