Los Angeles Dodgers Hold On in Toronto to Set Up Decisive Game 7 in Fall Classic

The World Series is going to a final seventh game following the Los Angeles Dodgers kept their repeat dreams intact Friday night with a 3–1 victory over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The defending champions ended Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a dramatic game-ending twin killing, stunning a Rogers Centre audience that had come ready to cheer the team's championship in over three decades.

Game 6 Summary

Los Angeles generated all of their offense in the third frame. With two outs, Ohtani was purposely passed before Will Smith doubled to left field to bring home Tommy Edman. Freeman drew a walk to fill the bases, and Betts delivered with a two-run single to left, handing the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

Betts’ hit snapped a postseason slump and rekindled the title holders' aspirations of becoming the initial back-to-back World Series winners since the Yankees captured three straight from 1998 to 2000.

Mound Battle

Gausman had been dominant to that stage, fanning six of the first seven Dodgers he confronted. He struck out 8 through three innings, matching a Fall Classic mark, but the third-inning barrage proved costly. The Blue Jays' star finished with 8 Ks over six innings, allowing three runs on three safeties and two free passes.

Yamamoto, meanwhile, was solid again under stress. The righty outdueled his counterpart for the second time in a seven days, allowing a single run on five base hits over six frames with six Ks. He improved to four wins and one loss this postseason with a 1.56 ERA.

The only run against him resulted from George Springer two-out base hit in the third, scoring Addison Barger, who had doubled earlier in the inning. That single provided a momentary lift in his return to the lineup after sitting out two games with an side strain.

Relief Effort

After that, the Dodgers’ bullpen took over. First-year pitcher Justin Wrobleski got out of a jam in the seventh inning, and another rookie Rōki Sasaki pitched into the ninth before hitting Kirk to start the frame. Addison Barger then hit a double that got stuck under the outfield wall, forcing base runners to stay at second and third.

Glasnow, the Dodgers' Game 3 starter, entered in a relief role and got a pop fly before Giménez hit a line drive to left field. Enrique Hernández made the catch and fired to second to retire the runner, sealing the win and giving Glasnow his first-ever save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The series now comes down to a single contest. Max Scherzer will take the mound for Toronto, becoming the sole active hurler to start more than one seventh games of the World Series after doing so in the 2019 season with Washington. The veteran inked a single-season contract to pursue another championship and has been a outspoken presence throughout this playoff run.

The Dodgers, aiming to be baseball’s initial repeat champions in almost 25 years, are projected to lean on their two-way star for a short outing.
