Alleged Harasser Asked: 'But What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A individual charged with harassing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a recorded message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court heard phone records and evidence recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported missing child cases and remains unsolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another recorded message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm fat and plain like Madeleine was, but I feel what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I simply desire to know," she added.
The jury was told that via emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with the police force who gathered the information, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to close associates of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, the father picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant established a association online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' property in that area in that winter.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated via communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the time leading up to the appearance to the village, Leicestershire, in December 2024.
The court was told correspondence between the two individuals, in that autumn, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from cutlery at a eating establishment.
"We have to make a stand," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their home, the defendant sent a communication which said: "We find ourselves positioned adjacent to the McCanns' house with our headlights off similar to private investigators. I had hoped to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
